Commander Dawn Mitchell, Nurse Corps, United States Navy (Ret.), is a respected leader and healthcare professional who concluded a distinguished 20-year career (2002–2022) in the U.S. Navy. She brings a powerful combination of clinical expertise, military operational experience, and high-level acquisition management skills, having earned a Master of Nursing as a Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist from the University of California, San Francisco , and holds certifications as a Joint Commission Fellow and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. Her operational service included a deployment to Iraq (Feb 2004 - Aug 2004) with the Forward Resuscitative Surgery System (FRSS) as a Charge Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit , providing vital critical care and trauma nursing. Additionally, she is a highly accomplished executive culminating as the Quality and Accreditation Lead at BUMED, where she was responsible for enterprise-wide quality oversight and accreditation strategy across all Navy hospitals and clinics. Since retiring, Commander Mitchell remains deeply committed to serving her fellow veterans by actively engaging with the American Legion Post 220, where she has served two terms as the Finance Officer, viewing the Post as a welcoming "home away from home" within the veteran community. Her service has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Meritorious Service Medal
