Paul Eggers proudly served eight years in the United States Navy from 1980 to 1988 as a member of the elite Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. He graduated from Navy Nuclear Power School in the top 10% of his class, earning the privilege of selecting his duty station. He chose the Submarine Service and was stationed in Groton, Connecticut, while forward deployed out of Holy Loch, Scotland.
Demonstrating exceptional dedication and technical proficiency, he earned his Submarine Warfare qualification (“dolphins”) in record time—within a patrol and a half. While serving aboard the USS Sam Rayburn, he fulfilled his primary duties as a nuclear-trained Electrician’s Mate and also served as Engineering Log Room Yeoman. In that role, he led a comprehensive overhaul of all Engineering logs for the Nuclear Division, for which he received a Letter of Commendation from the Engineering Officer.
He achieved the rank of Petty Officer First Class (E-6), EM1(SS), reflecting both his leadership and technical expertise within the Submarine Service.
Following his honorable naval service, he continued his commitment to public service by serving eight years with the City of Charleston Police Department in South Carolina.
Now a new member of the American Legion, he has already demonstrated his dedication to service by stepping forward to fill the role of Adjutant, continuing a lifelong commitment to leadership, duty, and community.
